oxgang (oks-gang). Hist. An amount of land equal to what an ox plows in one year, usu. 12 to 15 acres. ? An oxgang, equaling one-eighth of a carucate, was used to assess land for tax purposes. ¡ª Also termed oxgate; bovata terrae. Cf. CARUCATE.
