DEMINUTIO

deminutio (dee-mi-n[y]oo-shee-oh), n. [fr. Latin deminuere ¡°taking away¡±] Roman law. A deprivation or loss. ? The term appeared, for example, in the phrase capitis deminutio ¡°the loss of civil status.¡± ¡ª Also spelled diminutio. Pl. deminutiones (dee-mi-n[y]oo-shee-oh-neez). See CAPITIS DEMINUTIO.
